So after high school I jumped ship in Hong Kong and made my way over to Tibet, and I got on as a looper (caddy) at a golf course over in the Himalayas. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking.
So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-lagunga
So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.
After that I left for an LDS mission to Taiwan (90-92). After that I went to Ricks College and graduated in Family Science. My wife, Heather, is from Reno. We met at Ricks and graduated the same time, then went to BYU-Hawaii together. We both graduated with degrees in psychology. While at BYU-H my afternoon job was working at the Polynesian Cultural Center as a tour guide taking groups of Chinese people through the center.
We both ended up getting into graduate school at BYU (Provo). I went through the Marriage & Family Therapy program while my wife completed the School Psychology program. Ricks College was the best school for us socially, and BYU-Hawaii was by far the best academically.
I have a private practice in North Logan, Utah. My wife is the School Psychologist for Thomas Edison Charter School. Over the last few years I've gotten into riding dual sport motorcycles. We live in Smithfield and love it.
